MISTER JOHNSON - a clash of cultures between British imperialists and a black man too smart for his own good. . Directed by iconic Australian filmmaker, Bruce Beresford, Mister Johnson is an adaptation of the famous 1939 novel by Irish author - Joyce Cary . The story revolves around a Nigerian civil servant (Mr Johnson) in the 1920s British Colonial Nigeria. He works as a clerk in the office of the British district administrator and adopts the style of the British colonialists — in the belief that he is a true Englishman while failing to understand that the purpose of British law in Nigeria is to protect the British and subdue Africans like himself. Mr Johnson eventually becomes a victim of his own ambition.
